Hi All, I live in the UK where NCMI is really not that big, but I am amazed that these posts all tell a story that is still very familiar to me.
The concept is that these churches are all independent and relate from choice to NCMI, but I believe that the reality is that the church leaders hold the apostolic team in awe and tend to follow to the letter any "relational" input.
Some milestones teachings in our journey with NCMI, any of these familiar?
"The church is now your family" - The reality was that this church tried to keep everyone so busy that there was no time for friends or family outside of the church.
"You must leave your family and go to the nations" - Usualy preached by an elder just buying a new house and settling into the suburbs to raise his kids :-)
"You don't follow God, you follow your leaders" - I think this was the preach that made me decide it was time to go !!
"Your priority is God, then church, then family" - I think this has to be the mission statement of a cult.
"Friendship before function" - A cornerstone of NCMI philosophy. Unfortunately my experience is that this potentially wonderful method of truly building a relationship based church was horribly perverted, leaving so many people feeling butchered.
"Eldership is the highest form of government on Earth" - When you hear this at least one week in three along with constant reminders to submit and obey, there is only one decision to make. You are either in or you are out. I was amazed at how many (otherwise apparently sane) people bought into this and submitted every decision to the eldership.
The NCMI church that we were a part of left a trail of devastation in our city. So many good solid Christian people left disillusioned.
